Patrick (Pat) Kiolbassa died peacefully on November 29, 2023, while at home in Fort Cavazos, Texas. He was attended by family and loved ones during the last days of his life as the reminisced and prayed together.
Patrick was born in San Antonio on June 3, 1953, to parents Theodore and Mary Kiolbassa. His father, Theodore, died when Patrick was four weeks old. When Patrick was two years old, his mother remarried Leroy Ott. Leroy loved and raised Pat as his own and was known to Patrick as "Dad." Patrick had four older siblings and one younger half-brother and was loved by all.
In Patrick's youth, he enjoyed music and playing drums. In adulthood, he had a passion for fishing trips and had many stories of fishing with his kids and grandchildren. His love of gardening, cooking, and trying new recipes brought him joy. Then there were fast cars and hotrods, a hobby filled with exhilaration. He would share stories of fast muscle cars, enchanting children with his humorous stories of burning rubber, police, and adventure. As an adult, Patrick was a mechanic and owned Kiolbassa's Small Engine Repair for almost twenty years. Later in life, he became a long-haul truck driver traversing the United States in a big rig. He enjoyed his solitude while on the road but periodically would take time to visit friends and family who lived out of state.
Patrick wanted to be known for his love of Christ and his devotion to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Throughout his last year of life, he gave out many Holy Rosaries with the Divine Mercy Chaplet card to build stronger faith in his loved ones so they can meet again in Heaven. The prayer brought him hope, love, and peace during his sickest times.
Patrick is survived by his children, Christina Gamez (JC), Nathan Kiolbassa (Jennifer), and Stephen Kiolbassa (former wife, Mary); his grandchildren, Vivian, Patricia, Mary, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Ethan, Gavin, Jaxon, Waylon, and eight great-grandchildren; along with his best friends Beverly Black and Laura Oberlender and his siblings Marian Whitley (Leo), and Francis Krawczynski (Kenneth).
Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Kiolbassa, Mary Ott, and Leroy Ott and his siblings, Jerome Kiolbassa, Charles Kiolbassa, and Edward Ott.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to assist with funeral costs. Patrick loved to help people who struggled financially. Any funds exceeding the funeral cost will be donated in his name to a family in need of financial assistance.
"The greater the sinner, the greater the right he has to My mercy. My mercy is confirmed in every work of My hands. He who trusts in My mercy will not perish, for all his affairs are Mine, and his enemies will be shattered at the base of My footstool." (Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, 723)
Jesus, I trust in you!
