Ricardo served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with the MOS of Telecommunications until his retirement in 1997. During his time in the military, SSG Torres-Perez served over seas in Kuwait and Southwest Asia. He earned numerous medals including the Southwest Asia Medal with 2 bronze service stars and. the Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Ricardo is survived by his daughter, Sharice Torres; son, Christopher Torres; and sisters Yolanda Grillasca, Minerva Grillasca, Sophia Grillasca and Esty Santos, brothers; Ettienne Grillasca, Luis Grillasca and Manuel Grillasca and many nieces and nephews, along with his beloved grandchildren.
