Thomas Garvin Downes

Thomas Garvin Downes, age 69 of Copperas Cove, Texas, passed away at home on Monday April 28, 2014. He was born in Cotulla, Texas on May 30, 1944, raised in Beeville, Texas, and lived a full life in many locations before settling in Copperas Cove, Texas. He graduated from A.C. Jones H.S. and received his BA from Texas A&M (A&I) University at Kingsville. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1969, serving a tour in Vietnam. His interests were Texas history, baseball, and Dallas Cowboys football. He married Camilla Norvell of Harlingen, Texas on July 10, 1970. He is survived by four children: Nancie Mathis (Jason Garcia) of Austin, Texas; Brenda K. Prouty (Thomas Prouty) of Copperas Cove, Texas; Keith Downes of Beeville, Texas; Ty Downes of Copperas Cove, Texas; and five grandchildren. His parents are Thomas and Minnie Downes of Beeville, Texas (both deceased); he was raised by Buck and Bessie Harris of Beeville, Texas (both deceased). The family will receive guests for visitation at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, Texas from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday April 30, 2014, with a private viewing at 10:00 am on Thursday May 1, 2014. Funeral services will be at Galloway Funeral Home, Beeville, Texas commencing at 12:30 pm; interment services will follow at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 2, 2014.
