Services for Virgil Lee Porter, 80, of Copperas Cove will be 12:45pm Friday July 10, 2015 at Crawford-bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Burial will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. He was born June 29, 1935 in Portsmouth Ohio to Lillian Traylor and George Porter and passed away in his home on July 5, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Susane Porter, 3 bothers, 2 sisters and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Birdie Porter, sons, Henry Porter and wife Linda, Kenneth Porter and wife Mary , and Timothy Porter and wife Jewel, sister-in-law Patti Simonson and her husband Richard, 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He joined the U S Army at the age of 17 on August 17, 1952. He did two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and 2 Combat Medic medals. After the military he enjoyed league bowling.
The family will receive visitors from 4-6 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the wounded warrior.
