Bobby was the son of the late Alyene Jeanes Settlemires and Loward Settlemires. He dedicated much of his life to the timber and logging industry. He was a senior partner of the Settlemires Logging Incorporated where he became widely known by many as “Chainsaw,” a nickname that reflected both his strong work ethic and larger-than-life personality. Bobby earned the respect and admiration of countless people throughout the community through his hard work, integrity, and genuine love for others. He also faithfully served the citizens of Alcorn County as Justice Court Judge for Post 2, a role he carried out with fairness, compassion, and dedication. Bobby proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War veteran.
Following his retirement from the logging industry, he continued his life of service through his work with North Mississippi Community Services, where he faithfully served for 11 years. When asked about his hobbies, Bobby’s answer was always simple: “work.” He was a man who found purpose and fulfillment in providing for his family, serving others, and staying busy. Even in his later years, when his health no longer allowed him to work, the two things he missed most were working and being at church. Bobby was deeply devoted to his church, Tuscumbia Baptist of Corinth, and church family. Throughout the years, he faithfully served in many roles, including church treasurer, deacon, Sunday School superintendent, and senior adult class leader. His faith and dedication were evident in the way he lived and served others. More than anything, Bobby loved people. He never met a stranger and had a gift for conversation and connection. Whether with lifelong friends or someone he had just met, he made others feel welcomed and valued. His kindness, warmth, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In June of 1964, Bobby married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Linda Sue Dixon Settlemires. From the very beginning, theirs was a love story marked by unwavering devotion, deep friendship, and enduring commitment. Through every joy, hardship, and season of life, Bobby’s greatest strength was found in Linda’s love beside him. She was his constant companion, his comfort, and the heart of his world. Together, they built a beautiful life and a lasting legacy of love that their family will cherish for generations. Nearly 62 years of marriage blessed them with countless treasured memories, laughter, faith, and a love that only grew stronger with time.
