

A Celebration of Life Service for Charles “Charlie” Ray Counce, 76, are set for 11:00am Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Smith and Rev. Nathan VanHorn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MS.
Family and Friends Gathering will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm and Wednesday from 10:00am to service time all at First Baptist Church.
Charlie passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Born on September 16, 1947, in Selmer, TN, to Eva Lee and Norvel Counce. He graduated from Iuka High School in 1965, where he was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame and served as Class President. He married Nellie Ruth Murrah on August 21, 1966 and earned his degree from the University of Mississippi in 1969. Following graduation, Charlie served as a medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
In 1976, Charlie and his family moved to Corinth to establish the Counce Chevrolet Dealership with his parents. He was deeply involved in the community, serving as a long-time member of the Corinth and Booneville Kiwanis Clubs and on the Board of the Corinth Boys & Girls Club. He was currently serving on the TVRHA Board. Being an avid golfer, Charlie continued to play daily with a group of local friends after retiring from Corinth Coca-Cola Bottling Group in 2014.
As devoted member of First Baptist Church in Corinth for 47 years, Charlie contributed as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, usher, and served on various committees. Charlie cherished spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s sports events, and volunteering to help others.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie; and his brother, Kenneth Counce.
He is survived by his sister, Vicky King (Mickey) of Jackson, TN; his son, Chuck Counce (Jamie); his daughter, Ginger Green (Dow); sister-in-laws, Edna Murrah of Iuka, MS and Marcia Murrah of Lynn Haven, FL; brother-in-law, Norman Hamm of Tuscumbia, AL; five grandchildren, Ellis Counce, Ainsley Counce, Samuel Counce, Maggie Green, and Brantley Green; and 14 nieces and nephews.
