A service to celebrate the life of Judy McPeters, 78, will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 PM at the Fillmore Chapel with burial to follow in the Valley of the Dogwood. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM. Rev. Don Elliott, Rev. Ralph Culp and Rev. Dennis Smith will officiate the service.
Judy passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026 at home surrounded by her family. She is remembered with deep respect for a life marked by steady work, generous care for others, and a thoughtful presence that put people at ease.
She was born on August 24, 1947 to the late Elmer and Callie Brown McCluskey. She was a 1966 graduate of Alcorn Central High School. Judy was a loyal and faithful friend to all who knew her. It is easy to understand why she was chosen as Most Charming in her graduating class years ago at Alcorn Central. Beautiful inside and out, she was always cheerful and treated everyone the same.
For much of her life, Judy devoted herself to serving families in their hardest moments. She was the co-owner and general manager of McPeters Funeral Home for many years; she was widely regarded as the backbone of the business. Judy's warm personality made her a perfect fit for her many years of service at McPeters Funeral Home in Corinth, right beside her husband Bill, who adored her.
Judy always treated everyone fairly and with great respect. She knew most all the local folks and was eager to help and offer comfort and advice in any way possible. Over the years, she helped thousands of grieving families with kindness, patience, and quiet diligence. She also served on the board of directors for the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association and was the owner of Valley of the Dogwood Cemetery.
A longtime member of First Methodist Church of Corinth, Judy found meaning in faith and community. She especially cherished time with her grandsons, who were the highlight of her life. She enjoyed reading and was a great storyteller, offering others the simple comfort of a well-told tale and a listening ear.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McPeters; brother, Willie James “Shorty” McCluskey (Dorothy); and sister, Irene McCluskey Gray (Howard).
She is survived by her daughter, Marcy Hinton (Tom); son, Mark Matthews (Carley); grandsons, Thomas Hinton and Will Matthews; stepdaughter, Kayo McPeters; and step-granddaughter, Caitlin Voyles Huseth (Mike) and her daughter Poppy and a host of family and friends.
Facing several health issues in her later years, she never asked for sympathy, just managed to keep going and smile while offering encouragement to others. Judy cherished her family and grandchildren who she spoke of with great love and often talked about how good they were to her.
She will be missed by all of her family and the large community of friends. Judy's phone calls, cards, and thoughtful personal gifts will be missed now but the many happy memories will be treasured forever.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Judy McPeters to the Alcorn County Humane Shelter, AMEN Food Pantry, Jackson Thomas Marlar Love Jesus More CSD scholarship or the First Methodist Church memorial fund.
