

A Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors for James Leroy Miller, 97, is set for 10:30 am Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church with Bro. Rick Bell and Bro. Randy Marchant officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. A family and friends gathering will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors and Wednesday from 9:30 am to service time at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
Leroy died January 28, 2024 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was born February 2, 1927 in Alcorn Co. to the late Austin and Donnie Felker Miller. After graduating from Alcorn Agricultural High School, he was drafted in the US Army during WWII. He was the oldest member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church up until his death, having help build the current church. Over the years he was a church Trustee and a Sunday school teacher. Leroy started out as a dairy farmer, before getting into residential and commercial construction. He retired as Construction Superintendent for CIG Construction, where he traveled throughout building and overseeing job sites. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family.
Leroy is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Lamberth Miller; his parents; brothers, Winfred Miller, Jobe Miller, Eugene Miller; sister, Mary Ida Counce; and son-in-law, Ray Settlemires; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Grace Walker Lamberth.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Settlemires; sons, Keith Miller (Wanda), David Miller (Ellen); grandchildren, Marty Settlemires (Brandy), Brad Settlemires (Nicole), Jason Miller (Jessica), Matthew Miller (Kristen), Blake Miller (Ashley), Grace Scruggs (Tyler); great grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, Addison, Lilah Settlemires, Sam, Watson, Benjamin (Peyton), Knox, Ruthie Pearl, Mary Ester, Lynne Claire, Miles, Austin, Eva Katherine, Emma Grace “Emmy” Miller, Sadie, Ellie and Bettie Katherine Scruggs; and a host of other family.
