David passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the Cornwall Community Hospital, surrounded by family at 90 years young. Born in Montreal, David grew up on Sydney St. in Cornwall, part of a tight-knit Lebanese community that has left a notable mark on the city. A man of many interests and passions, David was an impressive athlete and rebel in his youth, and was an avid fisherman, dog lover, science fiction reader, coach, cook, bridge player, antiques collector and faithful fan of les Canadiens, Expos and Blue Jays. He is most remembered as a beloved English teacher at his alma mater CCVS, where he spent over 30 years inspiring students from all academic levels, and represented his fellow teachers admirably as the SD&G OSSTF Union president and chief negotiator. His retirement party in 1991 was one of legend.
David was predeceased almost a year ago by his beloved wife Nelsa (Brebeau) and will be forever missed by his children Annie (John), Nelson (Alison), Nick (Rebecca), and Shannon as well as five grandchildren, Quinn, Nolan, Callum, Brennan, and Liam. He is survived by his sister Joan Findley, and was also predeceased by his parents Charles, Rose and his siblings James, Gloria and Edward. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes West Branch 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482). A celebration of his life and Nelsa’s will be held this summer. Donations in his name to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolences may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca.
