Elizabeth "Betty" Jane McLaren

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Elizabeth “Betty” Jane McLaren (née Burnie) on Wednesday September 3, 2025, with family by her side at Cornwall Community Hospital at the age of 89.

Beloved wife of Kenneth McLaren. Loving mother of: James Earl Wood, Luane Doyle (Michael), Kallie Wolfe (Mick), and Tara Wood (Perry Lanoue); and stepmother of: Dieter McLaren (Erica) and Sheldon Empey (Diane). Cherished grandmother of: Conner Wood, Shawna Doyle (Jason Lavalee), Melissa Doyle (Dave Martens), Tyler Doyle (Jennifer deVries), Barat Wolfe (Daniel Puckhauber), Rebecca Wolfe (Carlos Cunha), Wesley Wolfe (Alli), Kenton Wolfe (Michelle), Daniel “DJ” Zeran, Nathan Zeran and Melody McLaren. Proud Gee Gee of: Gemma Lavalee, Declan and Emmelin Doyle, Jordan Martens, Samuel Cunha and Rasmus Puckhauber. Treasured sister of: Sharon Burnie-Gardiner (Sydney) and Robert Burnie (Brenda).

She will be dearly missed by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Albert and Lillian Burnie (née Duff); her sister, Verlyn Auty (late Stanley); her brother, Shane Burnie (Lynette Hodgins; and the father of her children, Earl Wood.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes cremation has taken place.

Family will be in attendance at Lahaie and Sullivan West Branch 20 Seventh Street W, Cornwall, on Monday September 8, 2025, between the hours of 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM.

As well as on Tuesday September9, 2025, between the hours of 9:00AM to 11:00AM prior to a Service of Remembrance that will be held in the Memorial Chapel of the funeral home at 11:00AM.

Interment to take place at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery.
