April 8, 1926-November 28, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Esther, who left us peacefully at 98 years old surrounded by her loving family.
Esther was a devoted wife and mother to seven children. Pre-deceased by her husband Kenneth MacDonald, daughter Deborah MacDonald, and son Kerry MacDonald (Cecilia), her memory lives on through her surviving children Wayne MacDonald, Karen Leger (Reg), Ron MacDonald (Hester), Wendy Proulx (Donald), and Steve MacDonald (Margie). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and doting great-grandmother to six great grandchildren who affectionately knew her as "Nanny".
Esther's career as a nurse's aid was marked by compassion and generosity- qualities that extended into her volunteer work at the Cornwall Hospital Auxiliary for 50 remarkable years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society for many years.
Esther found joy in simple pleasures. She enjoyed bowling, attending church teas, and playing Bingo. She shared a love of baking with family and friends and could be found in the kitchen baking for fellow residents at Sandfield Place. Esther cherished time spent with those she loved the most and couldn't let visitors leave without a treat or two from her infamous snack drawer. Known for her impeccable style, she was always well-dressed, with a particular fondness for jewelry and hats that added a touch of elegance to her presence.
As we gather to celebrate her remarkable life, we remember her warmth, generosity, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A gathering and light refreshments will be held at Lahaie and Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Home, West Branch, 20 Seventh St West (613-932-8482) on Monday, December 2, 2024 from 4:00-6:30pm. Words of remembrance will be shared at 5:00pm.
