George “Jack” Forsyth, born December 9, 1936, in Cornwall, Ontario, passed away comfortably on February 25, 2026, at the age of 89. A loyal, kind-hearted, and cherished man, Jack will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection by all who knew him. He will be fondly remembered for his steady presence he brought to his family, friends, and community.
Jack was the beloved and devoted husband of Grace (Marshall) and a loving father to Gary Forsyth (Leigh) of Stirling, Greg Forsyth (Gail) of Pender Island, B.C., and Gail Jackson (Barry) of Monkland. He was a proud grandfather to Kaeleigh; Brenna (Jason); Shane, Sam, and Stanley; Sarah (Erik); Jerrit (Megan); and Hannah (Logan). He was also a proud great-grandfather to Dawson, Charlotte, Abigail, and Bryanna. Jack was the dear brother of Carol (Morin) Richardson (Paul) of Orléans and is lovingly remembered by his nieces, Jessica and Kate, and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, George Forsyth and Juliette Renaud.
Jack was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving with dedication and completing tours in England (where he met and married Grace), France, Germany, and Canada, including postings in Trenton and Ottawa.
“Jackie” loved his hometown of Berwick. After retiring from the RCAF, he became the proud owner of the local service station. He held Berwick close to his heart with an enduring pride that never faded. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, devotion, kindness, and the quiet strength of a life well lived.
A sociable and welcoming man, Jack’s garage was often a gathering place for good conversation, easy laughter, and a spirited game of euchre. He enjoyed playing the washboard and spoons in a “wannabe” band called the Cockburn Ramblers, which often practiced in his basement. Jack was active in the hockey community as a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan, a coach, and a member of the old-timers hockey league. A strong advocate of scratch tickets, Jack delighted in handing them out to everyone—a small gesture that reflected his generous spirit and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch (613-932-8482). A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Finch from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Cornwall Carefor Hospice, Cornwall Community Hospital or Sandfield Place Family Council, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
