

SINFIELD, George William – peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital on Thursday April 13, 2023 at the age of 93 years. Beloved husband of Shirley (née Harrison) Sinfield. Loving father of Carol Leroux (Rheal) of London, Arthur Sinfield (Gayle) of Long Sault, George Sinfield Jr. (Mary Ellen) of Ottawa, William Sinfield (Gail) of Brantford and Frankie Sinfield (Giselle) of Cornwall. Proud papa of Troy, Tara Quesnel (Vince), Heather (Christiaan), Tracy Baker (Jason), Joyce Park (Dennis), Benjamen, Landen, Jason (Laura) and great papa of 10 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Frank Sinfield Sr., Florence (née Malyon) Sinfield and his siblings Arthur Sinfield, Patricia Thompson, Winnifred Cross and Frank Sinfield Jr.
George began his hockey career in Cornwall in the O.C.O.T. Boy’s Club and was a member of a midget team which won the O.D.H.A. Championship. After playing with the Cornwall Caluments Senior Hockey Club, George moved to Scotland where he continued his hockey career. He joined the Dundee Tigers of the Scottish Ice Association, leading the team in scoring in both years he played with them. The “Ice Hockey World Magazine” voted him the Most Popular Player in the League. In his final year in Scotland, George played for the Falkirk Lions of the Scottish League. Upon his return to Canada and to Cornwall, he played for Lake Placid and Vankleek Hill Senior Teams. He was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame for Hockey in 1972. George was a well-respected Hockey Coach in the Cornwall Area for several years. He worked in the Circulation Department at the Cornwall Standard Freeholder and then moved on to work a long career at Domtar Fine Papers.
Resting at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West, Cornwall (613-932-8482) on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of Service. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday April 20, 2023 in the Memorial Chapel of the Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Spring interment, St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery.
