

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Glenn Albert Sloan (aka Spider). Glenn passed away on Saturday October 17, 2015, at the age of 78 years, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving and eternal husband of Norma (nee Terriah), who were married on August 31, 1957. Glenn was the proud and caring father of Pamela (Mike Bissonnette), Deanna (Ray Lalonde), Shawn (Gisele), Cindy (Ray Seguin) and Derek (Bobby Lyn).
Glenn’s family multiplied granting him to grandfather 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Glenn is also survived by his siblings Thelma (Doyle) and Dorothy (Sisttie).
Predeceased by his loving parents Howard and Catherine (MacCulloch) Sloan and sister Marlene (Coates).
Glenn’s life was filled with the theme that family and love would prevail at whatever costs. The gentleness of a soft hearted man was transparent with Glenn. His entire family have been blessed with the inheritance of that same quality that he helped instill. An emotional man, same being said with the family as tears of love are always present.
He had began his working career as a youth in Cornwall employed by C.I.L. (part time mail boy), Dairy Dairy, Sky-Way Drive In and Montreal & Nyman’s Shoe Store. Glenn retired from Domtar Fine Papers, Cornwall after 43 loyal and dedicated years of service. Working from spare crew to supervisory positions capacities.
Participated in several committees and organizations including V.P. Local 212 (Domtar), “The Log” Editor (Domtar), Fish and Game Club (former Secretary), designed & helped build parade floats, participated in Mill sponsored sports (bowling, golf, inter-departmental hockey, curling and softball).
Other involvement included Toastmasters (former Director), Kinsmen Club (former Secretary), Eastern Lodge #707 (former Secretary), Director and Life Member of S.D. & G. Shrine Club, Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame (former Director), founding committee member of the bicycle path through Hydro lands, the Cornwall Regatta and North End Slow Pitch Softball league.
Friends will be received at the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street (across from city hall) Cornwall on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Friday 9:30-10:15 am. Funeral Mass on Friday at 11 am at St. Anthony’s Church, Apple Hill. Rite of Committal, St. Anthony’s Parish Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Carefor Hospice Cornwall would be appreciated by the family.
