We are very shocked to learn of Hughie's passing.  Our  sympathies to Carmen and family.  He and Carmen have been great neighbours of ours for the past several years.  We will miss hearing them cheering for the Blue Jays in the summer.  It will be difficult to not see and chat with him in the backyard.

I met Hughie back in 1991 when I 1st picked up a dart and I'm glad I did. Hughie was one of the greatest darts player I ever played against and had the pleasure to play with but most of all he was one of the greatest human beings you could ever meet. We knew Hughie and Carmen well but It wasn't until Hughie and Carmen moved to southern Ontario that we really got to know them as we moved that way just a yr after. Hughie invited me to play along side him in legion darts, tournaments and eventually Hughie would play on our Friday night team in Kitchener. They would often have Nan and I over for Supper and we'd always go at Xmas time to see the lovely Xmas display Carmen created. I had the pleasure and honor of having Hughie as a groomsmen at my wedding, I can remember the day i asked him as it was at darts and he grabbed my hand with those big mitts of his and with a smile he happily said yes. Hughie always made everyone laugh and Hughie was highly respected by so many. Since we heard of Hughie's passing we often talk about those memories and the laughs we had together. Thank you Hughie for the memories, they're some of the best ones ill carry with me forever. Hughie my Friend Thank-you for everything over the years it meant more to me than you know and we will miss you.

My condolences to you all in the passing of Hughie. I got to know Hughie through my brother Michael Lapierre and other dart players and playing against Hughie in the Bill Blackadder tournament. Hughie always stopped to talk to you and was truely interested in how you were doing or what you were up to.  I know Hughie will be missed by so many and especially in the darting community where his name still lingers on in conversations. From the darting community and myself I want to say we will all miss him and hope Hughie and Bill are having a good game of darts as we speak. Good bless Hughie and your family through this rough time ❤️

 When I was a kid I thought Hugh was something else.  Watching him play the guitar, inspired my "attempt" at playing  as well.  Hugh and his band mate Wayne, would  bring everyone together as they entertained. In later years I was amazed at how well he brought the bagpipes to life   

To be a spectator of Hugh and Angie's growing relationship brought peaceful joy to me.  

Hugh's smile and soft chuckle will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to meet him.

Keep the smile and pipes going Hugh. You will be missed.

Hugh grew up on a rural Ontario farm to the age of 14 when he moved out to work and live on a neighbouring farm. He was a person who would set his own goals and work until he reached them. This applied to sports,(Regional long distance running award in high school) his work, (Mechanics licence expanded to working short term in U.S.A., and sales) his community involvement, (hardball, hockey and broomball, Legion volunteer and executive), and his recreation - represented Legion in national darts competition and learned to play guitar and bagpipes providing this service at numerous weddings and funerals. He was a member of the Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry Pipe band. One of my husband and  my most precious memories was seeing him piping in the Maxville Scottish games grand entrance.  He was everything a brother should be and so much more.  The precious memories from over 75 years are too numerous to mention.

My cousin, Hugh Linton, passed away three days ago. We lived several hours away from each other and for a long time hadn't spent much time in each others company. That changed about 4 years ago when his sister, Gladys, spearheaded a bi-annual cousins reunion. I saw more of Hugh in the last 4 years than I saw of him in the previous 30 years. And I am so grateful I had that opportunity. The "last time", which was less than 3 weeks ago, we talked, joked, broke bread, laughed, traded stories and even played a hand of cribbage. So significant in that Hugh's father & my father, when visiting each other, would barely have their coats off before the cribbage board was on the table and the cards were being dealt. Like his father, Hugh was a master cribbage player, so not only was it wonderful to share the table, but I was actually his cribbage partner. I may as well have won the Nobel prize, it was that momentous for me. He taught me so much in that one game beyond playing better cribbage. He taught me joy and camaraderie to be able to share time and fun with those you love. He taught me patience by helping not just me, but the other team to make sure they got all the points they deserved. He taught me humility when we skunked the opposing team and all he could say was how well they played and how hard they tried. All that, in just one game of cribbage. I looked up to Hugh, I respected him, I admired him and like so many other grateful cousins who shared those bi-annual reunions, I loved him. We will all miss him dearly but I have no doubt we'll all be carrying a piece of Hugh Linton in our hearts until it's our "last time". ❤

I met Hugh through piping when living in the Cornwall area.  He was always upbeat and a fun guy to be around.

I last saw Hugh at my Dad’s Celebration of Life.  We had a brief but good visit.  May he rest in peace. 🕊️
