On the morning of 21 September 2025, a wonderful lady, loved and appreciated by a wide group of family and friends died peacefully in her sleep. Marga Joost (née) Stuke was many things to many people but to all she was a caring lovely lady who made you feel part of her family.
Marga is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Rudolf Christof Joost. She was the loving mother of Mathias (Sungsook), Stephan, Susanne Rose (Jeremy), Christopher and Oliver (Elizabeth), sister of Otto; beloved Oma to Jeremy, Katrina, Justin, Emily, Kieran and Jacob and great-grandmother to Adelaide Anne.
Marga was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1939. After one evening together Marga and Rudi knew they were meant for each other. Individually strong, together they were a powerhouse of love and caring, working together as a team throughout their lives and always considering the other first.
Arriving in Canada from Germany in July 1964 with the first two sons, there were many hurdles Marga and Rudi faced together. After two years in Montreal they bought a house in the countryside, which the family still remembers fondly. Two more sons and one daughter joined the family. Then it was a move to Montreal’s West Island, and with the kids all in school, Marga bloomed – Chinese cooking lessons, pottery lessons and painting – her works are displayed with pride by friends and family. And she helped Rudi with his business. When Rudi retired and they moved to Alexandria, Marga found another calling – volunteering. And as for grandchildren, they were the joy of her life. She left a legacy of love that remains in all of our hearts.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Cornwall Community Hospital who cared for her in the last year of her life. You gave her to us for an additional year.
A celebration of her life will be held at Lahaie & Sullivan Funeral Home, 20 Seventh Street, Cornwall on Tuesday, 30 September at 1:00 PM.
