LEAVITT, Russell Reed – Passed away at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, Cornwall, on Friday March 24, 2017. He was 92. Russell was the the third born of five children, and only boy, of Philip Roy and Clara (Reed) Leavitt. Russell met the love of his life Barbara Jean (Denneny) Leavitt and became husband and wife on April 16, 1955, until her death in 2012. Russell is sadly missed by one sister Jean and predeceased by 3 sisters, Phyllis, Mary and Joan. Russell enlisted in the airforce during WWII as a gunner and became flight engineer. He worked in Montreal as a surveyor and later in the United States as an inspector for Chiquita Bananas, inspecting shipments at various Ports. He was an avid cyclist, hiker, swimmer and enjoyed, canoeing, kayaking, cross country skiing, walking and reading. The outdoors is where he spent most of his time, in his backyard on a swing under a majestic maple tree. Russell was a religious man, very generous and had a great sense of humour. A Private Rite of Committal will be held at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations (by cheque) to Hospice Cornwall - Carefor would be appreciated by the family.
