I just heard about this today. 2022.  I wasn't close friends with Steve but we had a little "spat" in grade 9 but we had respect for each other and became friends.  I would see him throughout the years here and there... Always kind and always with a big big smile that he always had.  I lived in Kanata in 2008-2010 and I would see him every week when I did my groceries with my gf at the time.  Always talked for 10 min each time.  Always invited me out, but I was always too shy back then to admit about my anxiety...anyways, I have agoraphobia and never go out but decided to go see my old friend Chuck Leclair who is buried at Notre Dame and while there, my friend told me about Steve.  I'm heartbroken at what happened,  May he be in peace.  And I'll see you soon Stevee boy
