Terry Powell died peacefully at The Perley Rideau Veterans Care Centre in Ottawa. Born in London England, Terry was the son of William Powell and Ada Ellen Merry, and older brother to Ken (Jan). After WWII the Powell Family moved to Westward Ho!, a seaside village near Bideford Devon.
Upon graduating Bideford Grammar School Terry attended HMS Conway, a naval training school, and then traveled the world as a merchant marine. In the summer of 1957, while home on holiday, Terry met the love of his life Rosemary Beer on the beach at Westward Ho! Terry joined the Canadian Air Force in 1958 and later that summer he and Rosemary were married in Toronto. Together Terry and Rose embarked on their life of adventure and lived on many military bases across Canada and in Germany.
Four children followed: Stephen (Linda), Terri-Lynn (Mark), Tracey (Scott), and Christopher (Kathryn). Following them, grandchildren: Matthew (Tara), David (Julianne), Kyle (Harmony), Adam, Devon, Ethan, and Mia, and great-grandchildren: Dominic, Maxwell, Bennett, Rosie, and Harrison. This branch of the Powell Family Tree is now fondly referred to as “The Canadian Powell’s”. Terry leaves behind many friends and family members in England, Canada, and around the Globe to mourn his passing.
The family is immensely grateful to all of the Nurses, Personal Support Workers, Support Staff, Doctors and Volunteers who showed such care and compassion and provided loving care and attention while Terry was a resident of Rideau 1 South at The Perley. The family will have a private Celebration of Life for both of their parents, Terry and Rose, in Toronto at a later date. Terry will then make one final journey back to England to be with his Rose at the North Devon Crematorium.
