Barbara Jean Miner Beckett, age 97, of Placentia, CA passed away peacefully at home in her sleep in the company of caregivers and hospice on Monday January 20, 2020. Barbara was born September 11, 1922 in Long Beach, California.
She was an avid golfer until the age of 91, and loved to play bridge her whole life. She worked as a Psychometrist for the Veteran's Service Center when her children were young and was an active home maker, knitter, and gardener taking on all sorts of projects over the course of her life. She ran the local universe on a massive series of spreadsheets, the backs of envelopes, scraps of paper and post-its and loved to travel.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband Ralph Lawrence Beckett, Sr., daughter Carolyn Beckett Julian, sister Mary Jane Miner Knights, and her brother Douglas Miner.
Surviving relatives include her son Larry Beckett (Ralph Lawrence Beckett, Jr.) and his wife Laura Fletcher & grandchildren Susannah Bradlyn Beckett, Liam Fletcher Beckett, son Stephen Vincent Beckett and his wife Louisa Beckett & step grandchildren Sarah and Anna Guare, and Brave Williams and Emlyn Williams Fanjoy, her deceased daughter's children Douglas Hammerschmitt, Tracy Julian and Lisa Julian, and her sister Doris June Miner Harker, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Francis McClellan, Cheryl & Steve Eckstein, Lizette Cortez, Lizeth Villareal and Laura Freeman, and hospice, who all provided increasing levels of care for Barbara over the past 6 years.
A graveside service for Barbara will be held Monday, February 3, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Pacific View Memorial Park, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, California 92625. Following the graveside service will be a celebration of life from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Alta Vista Country Club, 777 E. Alta Vista St., Placentia, California 92870.
