Brian Thomas Prinn

Husband, father, grandfather, sailor, skier, Navy veteran, Cal Bear and indomitable life enthusiast, Brian passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013. He suffered a heart attack while riding his bike near Ocean Boulevard in Corona del Mar during a beautiful California morning. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Prinn was born on February 19, 1945, in Vancouver, Canada to Thomas and Catherine (MacKinnon) Prinn. His father’s business career caused the family to move various times, and he spent time as a child in Cleveland, Chicago, and Detroit, but always considered his home to be California. He attended high school at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California, where he first met Linda Hammarberg. The two would marry after college and would remain married for 45 years.

After graduating from Acalanes High School, Brian attended University of California – Berkeley, where he enrolled in Naval ROTC and graduated with a BA in International Business. After graduation, he was commissioned in the US Navy, joined the Naval Supply Corp and was stationed in Washington, DC and Vietnam. In 1971, he left active duty and enrolled in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, where he received his MBA in 1973.

Following Stanford, Brian entered the real estate business, initially as an officer of a real estate investment trust in Los Angeles. In 1975, he joined Lowe Enterprises, Inc. where he spent 28 years and served as vice chairman of the company’s board.

In 2003, Mr. Prinn formed Skye, Inc., a real estate and private equity investment company. He also served as a managing member of land development company Fonterra Partners LLC and the independent member of the Investment Committee for CB Richard Ellis Investors. Brian continued to be an active investor and advisor to multiple early-stage businesses in recent years.

Brian was a faithful, involved Christian, and served as an elder for many years at Bel Air

Presbyterian. He also served on the board of Fuller Theological Seminary and ScholarLeaders International and was a National Trustee of The Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He was a member of the Los Angeles Country Club, Big Canyon Country Club, The Balboa Yacht Club, The Reserve (Palm Desert), and the Saint Francis Yacht Club (San Francisco).

In March 2013, Brian and Linda had planned to host a celebration of their 45th wedding anniversary at Linda’s childhood home, the site of their wedding reception in 1968.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Linda, and his children, Erin (Ryan) Kerrigan of Newport Beach, California and Ian (Jazmin) Prinn of Encino, California, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Margaret (Prinn) Flaherty.

His memorial service was celebrated March 1st, 2013 at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach and he will be interred at Pacific View Memorial in Newport Beach.

Brian was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Boys & Girls Clubs of America or to a scholarship in his honor at ScholarLeaders International, assisting students attending Fuller Theological Seminary.
