Charles Allen Hathcock Jr. passed away in his home of 55 years in Costa Mesa, California on April 13, 2023. He was 91 years old.
Allen was predeceased by his wife, Inez, and his parents, Charles Allen Hathcock Sr. and Margaret Eva Hathcock. He is survived by his partner Ann Seiersen and children Lindsey (Bob) Miller, Greg (Moira) Hathcock, and Amy (Brian) Whitney, and his grandchildren Reid Whitney, Reagan Whitney, Aidan Whitney, Nick Hathcock, and Bailey Hathcock.
Born in Monrovia on November 20, 1931, Allen attended Monrovia High School and Mount San Antonio College before attending the USC School of Pharmacy. At USC, Allen was a member of the Skull and Dagger Honor Society.
After serving 2 years in the Army at Ft. Leonard Wood in Rolla, Missouri, Allen began his 50+ year career as a pharmacist in 1956. He first worked at the famous Schwab’s Drugstores in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, where he filled prescriptions for the likes of Clark Gable, Lucille Ball, and Judy Garland, among others. At Schwab’s, Allen also helped to finish off any uneaten custard from the in-store soda fountain at the end of each day. He opened Allen Rexall Drugs in the 5 Points Shopping Center in Huntington Beach in 1962, where he routinely worked 50+ hour weeks. After selling his business to CVS in 1984, he worked for CVS for another 20+ years.
Allen was married for almost 48 years to Inez Fischer Hathcock and was the greatest father you could ever wish for. He taught his children the values of integrity, hard work, and the importance of family, among other things. A true gentleman with a tremendous sense of humor, he was a constant source of laughs, support, comfort, reason, and wisdom for all that knew him. He was passionate about his family, friends, gardening, and USC football. Many family Saturdays in the 1970s & 1980s were spent at the L.A. Coliseum rooting on the Trojans, despite Inez being a UCLA graduate. Allen served the community as an active member of the Rotary Club of Huntington Beach, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. After retiring, Allen volunteered at the Share Our Selves Community Health Clinic in Newport Beach.
A visitation will be held on April 23rd from 5-8 p.m. at Pacific View Mortuary in Corona del Mar. A Memorial Mass will be held on April 24th at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Costa Mesa.
