Chih-Tuan Chen was born on September 24, 1916 (Year of the Dragon) in Changle, Fujian Province, China, the youngest child of an appointed scholar under the Qing Dynasty. Shortly after marrying Lie-Zi Chang, the Second World War broke out, and the family emigrated to Taiwan. The years in post-war Taiwan were very down-to-earth and spent helping family, friends and those less fortunate. In 1985, Ms. Chen emigrated to the United States to live with her daughter Anne, her son-in-law Angel and her two grandsons Scott and Jeff. Fiercely independent, she kept a studio apartment at Sunrise Apartments in Cypress, CA and was a dedicated congregant of Orange County Chinese Christian Church. When she was nearly 100 years old, she moved full-time to Huntington Beach, where she was cared for by Anne and her family, surrounded by love for the remaining years of her long life.
