siblings, his brother Christopher. His paternal grandparents are Urval and Dollie Hardiman; he is preceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, William B. and Bertha Smith.
Cy Jr. was baptized in the church at an early age. He attended preschool and Cox Elementary school in Fountain Valley, California, Leawood Middle school in Leawood, Kansas and Huntington Beach High School in
Huntington Beach, California.
During his early years, Cy Jr. enjoyed his time in school, had good grades and many friends. As all children, he enjoyed the company of his friends and all the activities they participated in together. When he learned to ride his bike, he rode it everywhere; sometimes requiring his parents to drive the neighborhood to find him.He was always a happy, fun-loving boy.
Growing up he participated in baseball, soccer and later football. But it was
soccer that he enjoyed and excelled at most.At an early age, he quickly learned the intricacies of the game but most importantlyhe thoroughly
understood the concept of teamwork. And he passed many of his skills to his little brother, whom he loved so much.
What Cy Jr. enjoyed most was when he played soccer with his little brother and his father. He would encourage little games that the three of them would play together. And it didn’t matter where. It could be in the
backyard, a park or even in their unfinished basement in Kansas. To him it was more than soccer, it was about being together.
In his early teen years he was so involved with the professional teams, he knew every team, every player for football, baseball, basketball and many of the European soccer teams. His favorite football team was the Minnesota Vikings and he proudly wore his purple, gold and white jacket.
After high school, his life changed and his struggles began. But the constant throughout, regardless of his condition, was that he encouraged togetherness. He was the happiest when his family was together. That was when that little boy smile always returned and what we will always remember.
