Diana Aston, a loving wife, sister, aunt, grandmother, stepmother and friend, was a bright light to anyone fortunate enough to have known her.
On Feb. 25, 2025, that bright light went dim when Diana passed away at home. She was 77 years old.
Diana was born in Artesia, California to Oneva Rosebud Head and Charles Clarence Pierce on Sept. 12, 1947, though some would say her life really began in 1971 when she married her best friend, Sam Aston, with whom she built a home and life in Laguna Beach.
Together, they enjoyed a romantic life that was nothing short of adventurous. They sailed, golfed, flyfished, and toured and traveled the world. They doted, cared for and admired one another in a way that showed everyone what a loving relationship should look like.
Following Sam’s passing in 2011, Diana re-dedicated herself to her community. Although Diana never had children of her own, her naturally maternal and nurturing personality gravitated her toward volunteering at CHOC Children’s Hospital, where she cuddled and rocked babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
She would often share with friends and family how much joy her volunteer work brought to her life. Diana was vivacious, and her warm and outgoing personality made her well-suited as a volunteer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Laguna Beach Police Department.
There was hardly a person Diana passed who she didn’t exchange pleasantries with, or a child who didn’t receive a badge sticker from her.
“I don’t know a stranger,” she would tell others.
She is survived by her brother, Chuck (Gloria) Pierce; sisters, Wanda Gutierrez, and Terri (Phil) Akin; her nephews and nieces, Rachelle Pierce, Charles Pierce, Kristina (Darrin) Pock, and Harold Pierce; and her great niece, Caroline Pock.
A chapel service with graveside to follow for Diana will be held Sunday, March 23, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Pacific View Legacy Chapel, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona del Mar, CA 92625. Following the chapel service with graveside to follow will be a celebration of life from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Muldoon's Irish Pub-The Celtic Bar, 202 Newport Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
