
Dora went home to be with Jesus at the age of 97 after a long active life of dedication to her family, friends, church and community. She was born in Iowa as the sixth daughter of eight siblings and grew up on a farm in the depression years. She married Foster Hess in 1933 and moved to Long Beach, California in 1935 where they raised their two children. The couple moved to Irvine in 1970. Her husband passed away in 1966 after 62 years of marriage.
Dora had a heart for God and children, demonstrated by her volunteer work which included Camp Fire girls, Sunday School teacher, CHOC , AWANA and Irvine District PIP Program as well as a devoted grandparent. Hobbies included sewing, reading, Bible study and Mermaids, a swimming group at the Meadows Mobile Home Park.
She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Amy and Jane Holm; son-in-law, Jeff Holm and her 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Woodbridge Community Church, 5000 Barranca Pkwy, Irvine on Sat. 8/25 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Benevolence Fund at Woodbridge Community Church.
