Beloved Wife, Sister, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother.
Doris was born November 21, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. She has four brothers, Ray, Edward, Bobby and Thomas, and 2 sisters, Darlene and Margie. Vern and Doris met in High school in 1951 and at the Hollywood Roller-skating Rink in Chicago, Illinois. Vern Decided that Doris was the sweetest and prettiest girl around and asked for her hand in marriage. They were engaged in June 1953 on the porch of grandma's house and married on June 19, 1954 at Hauge Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago. They would have celebrated 64 years of marriage next week.
The happy couple had the first of four children on October 16, 1955. They moved into their first home which was located on LaCrosse street in Chicago, where all four children were raised, until they moved to California in 1968.
Vern and Doris have 4 children, Diane Todd, Keith Nord, Danny Nord & Kathy Gomez, two son-in laws David and Richard and two daughter-in-laws Laura and Hope
15 Grandchildren Bryan, Christina, Vincent, Kimberly, Justin, Keith M, Andrea, Jaclyn , Benjamin, Danielle, Elizabeth, Jared, Sabrina, Ashley, Katelyn
9 Great Grandchildren Isaiah, Amelie, Symantha, Colette, Izaak, Addilyn, Gavin, Shelby, Ellie Grace her newest Great Grandchild born May 20.
While living in Downey, she was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She loved to sing in the choir and volunteered for many other church activities. She worked for Bank of America for over 25 years.
During her time at the bank she worked her way up to Vice President of Operations in Cerritos. While working at the Bank she enjoyed planning and assisting in bank functions such as the annual Easter egg hunt for the children and grandchildren of bank employees. She headed the annual summer bank picnic which was enjoyed by everyone including her own family. Doris was always giving of her time and shared her love with everyone she met.
In her retirement years, she was an active member and volunteer of the Downey Assistance League. She could often be found working in the thrift store and planning the annual fashion show brunch.
After retirement, Doris and Vern moved to Palm Springs, so she could enjoy her beautiful view of the mountains and palm trees while relaxing in her pool.
While living in Palm Springs, She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She opened her home to more than 20 people for a weekly bible study. She found so much joy in serving others and planning home cooked meals for her bible study group. She felt this was her ministry, and always made extra food so she could send leftovers home with everyone in the group.
Doris loved to bake and cook. She was an amazing cook who always made cookies and brownies for her grandchildren, family and friends. Everyone’s birthday was celebrated together by Doris making their favorite food and cake.
Doris enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always wanted to visit her at camp grandma. Vern and Doris often traveled to see their family and grandchildren in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Doris loved to serve others and had a strong Christian faith that she shared with everyone. She is now rejoicing in the loving arms of her savior and sharing her love of baking with all of heaven.
