Born in 1941 to Floyd and Merle Gunnerson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Hal dedicated his life to the service of his community and country. He served a distinguished career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. Concurrently, he committed three decades to the United States Army Reserve, where he rose through the ranks and advanced to Colonel before his retirement. His unwavering commitment to service left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Hal was a man who had a mind of his own and a firm belief in the 'right way' to do things—which was, of course, always his way.
Hal was a devoted husband to his beloved late wife, Betsi, and would regularly admit that he has been lost without her since her passing. He leaves behind a family that adored him: Kristin (Dan) Pingree, Erik (Kristin) Gunnerson; and his five grandchildren, who were the light of his life and his source of endless pride.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Pacific View in Corona Del Mar. He will be laid to rest with military honors beside his wife.
