Gary L. Hinman

Gary L. Hinman, 75, longtime resident of Newport Beach, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2016. He was born on December 28, 1940 in Lincoln, Illinois to Frank and Ruth Hinman. He spent his youth in Central Illinois, marrying his high school sweetheart, Sara McGowan, on June 16, 1962. He graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Illinois, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. Following graduation from the University of Illinois law school, he was elected to serve as State’s Attorney for Logan County. In 1977, Gary moved with his family to Orange County, where he spent many years as a law firm partner and General Counsel, specializing in real estate transactions, taxation and complex litigation. He also earned an M.B.A. in finance and real estate and taught courses in tax, finance and real estate to attorneys and CPAs. He and Sara shared a lifelong love of sports, especially the Fighting Illini, fine wine, travel, golf, and cats.

Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Hinman Jr. He is survived by Sara, his sons, Frank and Brad, and his daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Gina.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on June 11 at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA, followed by a celebration of his life.
