Hank was a true gentleman, a fun person to share laughs and stories with, and a beautiful human being. We spent hours at the Seacliff gym with the crew, working out, laughing, and talking about growing up back east. Hank was always there with his warm smile and a cup of coffee. His gentle nature and support after my husband passed was so appreciated. We would chat about life, share funny stories, and compare HOA notes. Hank was a family man through and through. I enjoyed his stories of travel, his lovely wife, his children and grandchildren. He was a very sweet friend, and I think of him often.

Henry “Hank” Volker was the epitome of a family man, he loved, and would do anything for his wife, children and grandchildren.

Hank came to a big city in California but never lost his small town values and morals that he was raised with in Ventnor, a small town on the South Jersey shore.  In California at UCLA he met his lovely wife Margarita, who was responsible for the beauty and grace in his life.  Hank worked hard and had a very successful career at General Telephone and Electronics corporation.  He and Margarita worked together to provide the best for their family.

My Uncle Hank was one of the most intelligent and thoughtful men I have ever met.  He was witty, kind, patient and at times impish. Also very handy.  I recall a story from when he was rebuilding the engine of his old Ford and finished with two bolts left over.  Just prior to starting said newly rebuilt engine he extolled “I may have improved upon Henry Ford’s design by saving money on these two bolts” and proceeded to start the engine.  Well it came to life rocking and knocking and it was then that he figured out he had left out the two engine mount bolts.  After they were installed he drove the car for quite a while without any further problems or suggestions to the Ford Corporation.  

My Uncle was my father figure during my young formative years and for that I feel truly blessed.  I will miss and remember him forever but take solace that he and Aunt Margarita are together, in Heaven, happy once again.


Our friendship with Hank's family started in the 80s when our children were mosstly on their own. The 4 of us did many things together. We took a cruise all around the Mediterranean with extra stops in Instanbul and Barcelona and another took us around the very beautiful Croatia region. Our wives did  morning walks on the shoreline at the beach and Hank marveled at them as they both talked at the same time, apparently with complete  understanding. Hank  noted wryly,  that he wasn’t that  lucky. In Hank’s rollerblading days, his two daughters lived in New York and often in the wintertime when NY was in quarantine from snow storms and blizzards, he would regale them with stories of our skating in our shorts and t-shirts along the strand with the setting Sun peeking over the shoulder of Catalina . Future setting suns will be diminished without Hank.

Hank was a very special friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him . May he Rest In Peace .
