Recently, family, friends, USC officials, and fellow business professionals gathered to honor Honorine Theresa Gordon, 87, of Las Vegas, NV, who passed away on Novemeber 1st following an illness. Honorine was born in Boston, MA and moved to Hollywood, CA at the age of seven.
Most of her remarkable life was devoted to work and family. She was a pioneer among women in the funeral industry, working in a field that was practically all male in the 1960’s. She became a funeral director and then proceeded to own and operate over a dozen mortuaries and cemeteries throughout Southern California. She specialized in remodeling rundown funeral homes and making them into beautiful, welcoming places. Even with her status and success, she was always the first one to answer the phone and to greet families at the door. Her career spanned over 40 years.
Honorine had the ultimate designer’s eye and also excelled at flipping houses, but her greatest joy was her family. She was a beloved and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. We are heartbroken by the loss of such a vivacious, strong, elegant, colorful, and generous force in our lives. Everyone who met her, never forgot her.
She is survived by her husband, Hank, daughter and son-in-law Terri Morris (Michael), granddaughter Terrin, sister Dolly Granatelli, nephew and wife Anthony Granatelli (Sonja), stepchildren and their spouses Richard Gordon (Andrea), Laura Shuster (Stan), and step-grandchildren, Drake, Scarlett, Max and Camryn.
Services were private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Brain Foundation at americanbrainfoundation.org.
