Outdoorsman, Public Servant, and even a hopeless romantic, Jimmy Dale Friesel, was born on October 1, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, lived in Chicago, and, when he was 12, the family moved to Long Beach, CA, where Jimmy would go on to live the quintessential California lifestyle with his final home being in Laguna Beach.
As the Friesel family was of the Catholic faith, Jimmy attended parochial and public school; however, he would graduate from Lakewood High School in 1959 and later from San Jose State University with a BA in Social Sciences.
Jim, as he was called by most, served 28 years as a California Department of Justice unit supervisor and retired in 1995. During his tenure, he not only supervised other employees, but he also fell in love and married Ina Piette, a fellow Parole Officer, who he boasted was the most beautiful woman he ever saw and who he affectionally called (and would sing) "Ina from the dinah."
Although retired from public service, Jim and his best friend, Howard Abrams, maintained a real estate partnership for over 30 years, and, as they were more like brothers, they spent countless vacations fishing and hunting, and Jim became godfather to Howard's son Michael, who would become Jim's business partner after Howard's passing.
Coupled with Jim's love for Ina and adventure, they traveled to many far-off places … from walking along the Great Wall of China to walking with lions on safari in South Africa and even helmet diving in Tahiti, Jim lived life to the fullest!
Jim's parents, Mary Jane and Anton Friesel, and sister, Barbara Cathleen Anderson, preceded him in death. Jim leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, Ina Friesel; step-children Rhonda and Tony Crutchfield; Andre Piette; nieces Shannon Anderson, Stacee Baker, Sammi Mendenhall, and many other family members and friends.
The family is comforted knowing that Jim is now with his family and his beloved canines, Bosco, Hershey, and Barney.
