

Khao Trung Luu was born on October 3, 1932 in Ha Nam, Vietnam to Huyen Trung Luu and Ton Thi Luu. He graduated from Chu Van An High School in Hanoi, Higher School of Pedagogy in Saigon, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature at the Faculty of Letters, University of Saigon. He taught at Nguyen Trai, Chu Van An, Nguyen Cong Tru, Nguyen Ba Tong, Van Hoc, and Van Khoi high schools in Saigon. He also taught at Lyceum Cuu Long and Regina Mundi (Couvent des Oiseaux). He was the principal at Kien Phong High School and the chief inspector for secondary education in the Department of Education of the Republic of Vietnam.
He was highly involved in promoting Vietnamese language and culture in the United States. He spearheaded the movement to fight for the improvement of civil and human rights conditions in Vietnam through television, the radio, and newspaper articles. In addition, he hosted weekly radio talks (Hai Trieu Am) to disseminate the knowledge of Buddhism.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Luu has also been blessed with knowing his true characters: patriotism, loyalty, unparalleled kindness for others, and his immeasurable devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife, Kim Anh Luu, his son, Khoa Trung Luu, his daughters, Trinh Thuc Luu and Thao Thanh Luu, and his grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlin Nguyen; Brenton, Austin, and Kyle Luu; and Arthur Thai.
