LaVonne Bernice Kahre

LaVonne Kahre passed away on April 3, 2022, at the age of 88. She was born May 23, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, to Rebecca and Howard Roepnack. LaVonne grew up in Arvada, Colorado. She attended Arvada High School and the University of Colorado, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.

LaVonne married Gerald Kahre in 1955, and they moved to Santa Monica, California, in 1956. In 1975, the family moved to Costa Mesa, California. LaVonne was a dedicated wife and mother. She was an active volunteer at her children’s school and enjoyed finding volunteer opportunities in the church. After her children were grown, she thoroughly enjoyed a second career at Concordia University working in the administrative office and in Foundation Relations.

LaVonne’s gift was music! She started playing the piano in her early years, the flute in the high school band, and accompanied many choirs throughout her adult life. In 1982 she took organ lessons and began playing for church. She enjoyed many years as the church organist at Christ Lutheran Church in Costa Mesa.

LaVonne is survived by her daughters Sharon Frydendall and Marsha Hafer and her son Karl. She has nine grandchildren: Nickolas and Alexander Bagnara; Peter, Tim and Elyse Frydendall; Nichole (Brockman) and Tyler Hafer; and Garrett and Alaina Kahre. She has three great grandchildren – Olivia and Isabella Frydendall and Aida Bagnara. She has one surviving sister, Barbara Pollock, and thirteen nieces and nephew and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and her daughter, Donna.

LaVonne’s heart for mission work continues at Concordia University with an endowment scholarship fund. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to “The Kahre Family Endowment Scholarship Fund” at Concordia University, Irvine, to assist future development of Lutheran education and music students.

A visitation for LaVonne will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary FD1176, 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, California 92625. A memorial service will occur Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Christ Lutheran, 760 Victoria Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92627.
