June 21, 1930 - April 6, 2016
Margaret was born in Newark, New Jersey to proud Scottish parents Jean and James McCallum. She married her childhood sweetheart Robert “Bob” Freid in 1948. They moved around the United States from Newark, New Jersey to Albany, Georgia to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Columbus, Ohio settling in Irvine, California in 1980. Along the way, Margaret gave birth to 5 children.
Her close knit family was her greatest joy. Margaret, a devoted wife and selfless mother created a life full of love, laughter, and sunshine for her family. An avid reader, she enjoyed collecting lots and lots of books on a variety of subjects but especially cookbooks! Throughout the years, enjoying her home cooked meals, the family would gather for lively conversation sharing our “stories”. Margaret, a patient listener was always more interested in what you had to say and had an incredible gift of making you feel special.
Margaret was a faithful, practicing Catholic who lived a simple, quiet yet extraordinary life of loving wife, mother, sister, gram, great gram, and friend. Margaret and Bob’s remarkable bond of true love can never be broken. She will forever remain the cherished and adored heart of our family.
Margaret is predeceased by her sister Pat, daughter Patricia, and grandson Michael. She is survived by her loyal and loving husband of 67 magnificent years Bob Freid and sons Rob (Alice), Chris (Nancy), Mike, and daughter Mary (Walter), grandchildren Stacy (RJ), Jason (Michelle), Christina, Austin, Abby, Spencer, great grandchildren Michael, Lexi and dear sister Marilyn (Frank).
