Max Mener, MD was born on July 19, 1952 to Israel and Nelly Mener in New York City. He grew up in Jamaica Plains, Queens, NY, with his older brother, Leon. After graduating from NYU with a degree in Biology, he attended Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he also learned to speak Spanish fluently. After medical school, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Chicago Medical School, where he also met his future wife, Anim. Following residency, he moved to California. He practiced Emergency Medicine and enjoyed the variety of cases, excitement and fast pace of the emergency department.
In addition to practicing medicine, his other passions included spending time with his family and appreciating the craftsmanship of cars. On his days off, he could be found perusing various car dealerships, test driving the newest cars and learning about the latest automobile technology. He was also a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and brother-in-law. For example, he often left voicemails on his daughter’s cell phone, saying that he was calling “just to hear [her] voice.”
He passed at 66 years old on August 31, 2018 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the company of his wife, daughter, son, brother and sister-in-law.
