Ralph is survived by his loving wife Jean of 52 years, daughters Debby Bedwell and Janice Kimpel, son, Mike Marsh, son-in-law Terry Bedwell and daughter-in-law Margaret Marsh. Grandchildren, Jennifer Matulich, Randy Kimpel and Danny Kimpel and Great Granddaughter Nikky Kimpel. He also leaves behind his sister Mary Jo Bowman and many nieces and nephews. Ralph was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend to all.
Ralph grew up in a small mid-western town in Missouri where he enjoyed playing football and basketball in high school. He was honored as an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Chillicothe Professional Business College and then joined the Marines for a short stint until WWII was over. He later set his sights on a dream job traveling west to California where he began a lifetime career in sales, initially at Northrop and then on to Liberty Electronics where he met the love of his life, Jean Treadway. They married two years later on June 26, 1964 and a new life chapter of love, joy and devotion together with his best friend lasted for the next 52 years.
Ralph had a great professional career in Hotel & Restaurant sales as a Regional Sales Manager for over 40 years. He covered the Western States including Alaska and Hawaii. On the (fun) trips to Maui and Oahu Jean would join him.
Ralph was an active member of the American Legion Post 291 in Newport Beach and the Huntington Beach Elks 1959. He loved to participate and volunteer at their events. You could always find him with Jean on Friday nights dancing to the live band at the American Legion or having dinner at the Elks.
Ralph loved any and all things electronic. He always had the state-of- art sound equipment to play the thousands of albums he collected. Music and dancing were his favorite pastimes. Staying active with friends was always a priority. Each day he’d walked with his good buddy’s on the HB pier and then head to the local I-Hop to have breakfast or lunch with the guys. Everyone knew Ralph, as he walked down Main Street he greeted everyone he passed with a warm smile and cheerful hello.
Ralph was an amazing father. As a divorced Dad of a young teenage daughter, Jan, and the adopted Pop to Jean’s young children, Debby & Mike, he was devoted to supporting them in all their activities, including sports, school activities and scouting. You could always count on him to have a positive approach to life, offering a genuine smile, kind words and a listening ear.
