

Born on August 6, 1987 in Carlsbad, Rob was the son of Virginia and Eugene Hallner. He went to La Costa Heights elementary school, Oak Crest Middle School and graduated from La Costa Canyon High School in 2006. Rob studied accounting at the University of San Diego.
Rob was an avid surfer having spent hours in the water at Swamis, D Street and Ponto, and was equally passionate about snowboarding with Big Bear and Mammoth being his two home mountains. Rob was also a budding entrepreneur having created a start-up clothing line for surfers featuring custom t-shirt designs that were sold online and at local events.
Rob travelled extensively throughout Europe and South America as part of the American Field Service Program, and was an exchange student in Chile in 2005.
Surviving relatives include brother Timothy Hallner (26), sister Lauren (16), and foreign exchange sisters Silvia Piran of Milan, Italy and Hanna Schachel of Berlin, Germany. Other surviving relatives: Louise Costa, Balboa Island and Susan DeSantis, Newport Coast; Robert and Kari DeSantis of Midlothian, Virginia and Stephen and Kris DeSantis, Ladera Ranch, California; Nicolas and Steven DeSantis; Delaney, Grace, and Mia DeSantis; Greg Weekley; Jeff and Luke Lombardo.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Christ Presbyterian Church on 7807 Centella Street in Carlsbad at 1:00 PM. to be immediately followed by a reception at the Church. A second private Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 10 AM at the St. John Vienney Catholic Church on Balboa Island, followed by internment at Pacific View Mortuary in Newport Beach.
A ceremonial paddle out and celebration of Rob's life took place on Sunday from 10:30 to 1:30 PM at Swamis Beach.
