Los Angeles, CA, on May 5, 1947, to Ruth and Eugene Vaughan. He attended Torrance public schools. Bob was a classic South Bay long board surfer, and throughout his life, surfed the beaches of Southern
California and south of the border at his favorite spot - The Baja. In tribute, his ashes will be scattered along the SoCal coast.
Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army at 19 years old and served as a Specialist during the Vietnam War from March 1967 to March 1968. During his tour, he fought with his band of brothers in the Tet Offensive. He went on to become a credit manager and worked for companies in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Phoenix, where he retired. Bob’s oversized personality - and unparalleled zest for a good time - guaranteed a journey through life that was boisterous, joyful, and, of course, not without mischief.
Upon retirement, Bob returned to his beloved California and spent the last eight years enjoying his home and the warmth and love of his friends and family - his daughter Heather, his son-in-law Justin Anderson, his grandsons Nicholas and Shane; his sister Carole, his brother-in-law Steve Derus; and his nephew Rick, and his family - wife Roma, and son Rhys. Along with a saddened circle of friends who loved him dearly, Bob leaves behind his adored little dog, Scruffy, who gave him unwavering love and companionship.
Everyone who knew Bob will fondly remember his booming voice, his exuberant smile, his enthusiasm, his Hawaiian shirts, his Christmas clothes, his never-missed birthday wishes, or his favorite expressions
- “HaHA!” – “Yeah, man! C’mon!” - and “Life is good!” Bob will be missed and the world is a dimmer place for his leaving - but his memory will always shine bright in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patty, and her husband Chuck Goble. An outdoor memorial service will be held July 31, 2021, at 12 noon at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary - “Catalina Vista” - 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, CA. An outdoor reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob’s name to freedomdogs.org in support of our military veterans.
As a final note, thank you LA Dodgers for bringing Bob so much enjoyment.
