Roberta Mae Wolgemuth was born to John and Verna Wolgemuth on September 7, 1930, in Colusa, Illinois. She grew up on a farm and developed her future nursing abilities tending to the various animals that her family raised.
Roberta graduated from La Harpe High School and received her nurse’s training at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. She married Robert “Bob” Lefler, a hometown boy, on December 21, 1952.
Roberta supported Bob’s return to college by working as a nurse in various hospitals. At the age of 44, Roberta returned to college and received her B.S. degree in nursing from California State University, Northridge, allowing her to work as a school nurse until her retirement in 1988.
Roberta enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy and authored a number of family newsletters. Another love was quilting. Her daughter Cindy accompanied her on many “quilt runs” and she passed onto Cindy the responsibility of making quilts for each new baby in the family. Roberta loved travel. She and Bob traveled in the United States and abroad. In retirement, they also were ushers at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Bob and Roberta were married for 44 years until Bob’s passing in 1997.
Roberta is survived by her children Steve (Linda), Jeff (Jane), Cindy (Ric) and Debbie, grandchildren Elizabeth Lefler, Tobin (Sarah) Lefler, Levi (Amanda) Lefler, Aaron Fox and Ryan (Brooke) Fox, her great-grandchildren Oliver, Owen, Torrey, and Ophelia, her sisters LoRetta Cona and Rita (Brad) Faulkner, sister-in-law Aloure Wolgemuth, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved by all.
