For the friends and family of Valerie Moseley, the world is a much sadder place after her recent loss to cancer. She fought valiantly for six long years, while always finding happiness in everything and spreading it to others. Even those of mild acquaintance, when learning of her passing, effuse with fond memories of her warm connection with them. And those who knew her best will be marked forever by her love of life and her love of them. She carried hope, as did we all, to the end. Now her hope continues in the promise of Jesus Christ.
Born in San Francisco, she grew up in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. She was a cheerleader and gymnast in high school, graduated with honors from both UCLA and Pepperdine Law, and was hired by the top law firm in Los Angeles.
She traveled extensively around the country and abroad, and studied in London, Paris, Florence, and Geneva. For a time, she lived with a French family, perfecting her fluency in their language. And she loved taking pictures with her Leica rangefinder camera.
Her approach to life was to engage it. She rock-climbed a mountaineering route to the top of Mount Whitney, camped and kayaked along the wild coast of Alaska (and met bears), parachuted, ran the L.A Marathon, and stood on the rocky “diving board” ledge overhanging the face of Half Dome in Yosemite (after climbing cables to the top). She went dog sledding, rode a bobsled down an icy former Olympic course, spelunked in a deep unlit cave system using specialized gear, flew in vintage WW II B-17 and B-24 bombers, and, of course, loved roller coasters.
The most precious thing in her life was her son, who grew so much from her nurture and will never forget her. He, like the rest of her immediate family, would have gladly traded places with her. We will love her every day, miss her every day, and have a hard time living without her.
Valerie made the world brighter just by being in it!
“He who hears my Word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24)
For all those who knew Valerie, we thank you for being part of her life. She would invite and welcome you to add your heartfelt remarks to the online version of this obituary at pacificviewcalifornia.com
