Tammy graduated from Corpus Christi High School (currently known as Roy Miller High School). She then went on to attend Del Mar College and received several professional certificates throughout her lifetime including, Chairside Dental Assistant, Cosmetology, and Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She had a big heart and a passion to help people, which served her different careers perfectly. Tammy worked in all of these fields for many years until her eventual retirement in 2000.
Tammy went on to marry Gregorio Orta in the mid 1970’s in Altus, Oklahoma. Together, they started their family and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas.
In her spare time, Tammy often enjoyed the little things in life. She liked to go shopping for purses and shoes. She loved to go to the salon and beauty shop to have her hair done and be pampered. In her younger days, she even enjoyed playing bingo and trying her luck at slot machines. Above all, Tammy loved to spend time with her beloved family.
Tammy leaves many beautiful memories behind for her family to fondly reminisce on. Many of these memories include all of the family gatherings they spent together. These gatherings were always sure to be filled with love, laughter, and good music for Tammy to dance to, which she thoroughly enjoyed. As a big family role model, her family will also remember the valuable advice she gave them. Tammy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Tammy is reunited with her husband, Gregorio Orta; parents, Eusebio and Ester Carrillo; and siblings, Minerva Guerrero, Raul Carrillo, Oscar Carrillo, Horacio Carrillo, and Jose Carrillo. Tammy leaves her memories to her children, Leticia (Oscar) Melendez, Diana (Emilio) Gonzales, and Alex (Michelle) Orta; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; and brother, Arnold Carrillo Sr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
The Carrillo family would like to extend their gratitude to Nurse Sebastian from Christus Spohn South ICU, American Medical Hospice, and Angel Bright Hospice for their diligent and compassionate care for Tammy through her final transition. They would also like to thank those who traveled from afar to see Tammy and share their company with her; Tammy’s best friend of 31 years, Peggy and Gabby Cisneros who traveled from Lawton, Oklahoma; Tammy’s niece, Imelda and Luis Garcia who travelled from Hereford, Texas; and Lali Carrillo-Davis who travelled from Houston, Texas.
