Aurora Cano was born, on June 25, 1932, in Naranjo, Texas to Gervacio Polanco Cano and Micaela Salazar Cano. Aurora worked for four years at Whole Sales Dry Goods store in Santa Rosa, Texas. She was a head clerk and cashier, that is where she met Antonio G. Garcia in 1953. They were married on May 5, 1957, Mom was a loving wife, Mother and homemaker to a family that included 9 children.
Aurora was a frugal and simply woman who adored her children. She taught us how to have faith and instilled in us the power of prayer. She was a devote catholic and member of Christ the King Church who also belonged to the Schoenstatt Moment for many years. Mom spent many hours cooking, sewing, and crocheting, people will always remember her tamales. She also loved the outdoors especially spending time taking care of all her plants. She enjoyed being a part of all family functions and would travel to see the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Her past time was going to Coushatta with friends and family. Mom talked fondly of her childhood and life spent with her siblings. She spoke daily with her beloved sister Hermelinda Arce and truly enjoyed visits from family and friends who called or came by her house.
Aurora is preceded in death by her husband Antonio G. Garcia, and her eldest son Jose Luis. Her parents, Gervacio Polanco Cano and Micaela Salazar Cano, her brothers Jose Cano, a Korean War Veteran, Guadalupe Cano (Felipa), Amado Cano, sisters Maria Rita Gonzalez (Jesus), Micaela Longoria (Tomas), Manuela Villarreal (Pilar), Juanita Vuittonet. Hermelinda Arce and her sister-in-law Lucia G. Cano.
She is survived by her children who will continue her love for Christ. Her sons Antonio Jr of Austin, TX, Jesus (Terry) of Suisun CA, Juan Manuel (Carmen), Jose Patricio (Ruby), Eduardo and Gerardo of Corpus Christi, TX. Daughters Irma San Miguel (Joel) of Corpus Christi, TX and Josefina Garcia Bartley of Sioux Rapids, IA. Also survived by her 12 grandchildren Ronika Mann (Josh), Godric Antonio Garcia, Greg San Miguel, Gino Garcia, Sabin Archer, Ayden (Makayla) Garcia, Loudin Garcia, Nicole Bartley, Nicholas Bartley, Katerina Garcia, Miranda Garcia, John Anthony Garcia, and, Chase and Nobel Treybig, her 5 great-grandchildren Bryant Garberding, Riley Anderson, Phellyx and Atticus Garcia, Madison Mann and baby boy Mann (due 8/2022), her two brothers both Korean War Veterans Elueterio (Rosa) Cano of Corpus Christi, TX and Victor Cano of Universal City, TX, her sister-in-law Guadalupe B. Cano of San Rosa, TX, and brother-in-law Rogelio Arce of Santa Rosa, TX. Aurora is also survived by her niece Juanita De La Garza who was raised as a sister and a special place in her heart for her nephew Jose Cano, her daughters-in-law Michelle Garcia and Karena Archer, her son-in-law Nick Bartley.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 5 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, with a Vigil Service and Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church, on May 11, 2022 at 9:30 a.m., 3423 Rojo Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Serving as her pallbearers will be her six sons and honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.
