

On Thursday, December 4, 2025 heavens gates opened and our heavenly Father welcomed Candido V. Almeida into his warm, loving embrace. Candido, age 83, was born October 3, 1942 to Cirilo and Dionicia Almeida in San Diego, Texas. He graduated from Robstown High School, enlisted in the National Guard. Candido worked numerous years for ASARCO and then went on to work at Gibson Elementary where he was loving known as Mr. A and affectionately called Grandpa by many of the students. Candido married the love of his life, Estela R. Almeida and shared 59 years together. They had four children. Candido loved to fish and BBQ. He was always involved in his children’s activities, being a Scout Master, baseball coach and band parent. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching the Texans, Astros and Longhorns. He was CC Hooks Season Ticket Holder and enjoyed attending all the games.
Candido is preceded in death by his loving wife, Estela R. Almeida, sons, Mario R. and Juan M. Almeida, his parents, siblings: Juan Eleuterio, Manuel, Guadalupe, In-laws: Pedro and Sidelia Rodriguez, Brothers-in-law: Domingo and Rodolpho Rodriguez, sister-in-law: Maria Antonia Gutierrez and his loyal companion, Brisco.
He is survived by his son, Jose A. Almeida, daughter, Maria E. Wisey Almeida, sisters; Angelita Almeida, Bernardina Ramos, Carmen (Jose) Martinez, Brothers-in-law; Pedro (Angelica) Rodriguez, Martin Martinez, sister-in-law; Maria Linda Vasquez, close family friends, Adrian and Dalia Guerra, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, Hooks family and his granddog Jalisco.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Friday, December 12, 2025 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that same evening. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 13, 2025 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Having the honor to serve as pallbearers are Adrian Guerra, Noel Esquivel, Eleuterio Almeida, Jr., John Martinez, Jerry Martinez and Jerry Molina. Honorary pallbearer is his beloved nephew, John J. Martinez.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Cynthia Ramos Martinez, Mayra Guerra and Ruby Martin for all their help through this difficult time.
