

Cathleen graduated from Banquette High School in 1975, and attended Texas A&M University in College Station, where she received her Bachelors of Animal Science (Class of ‘79). She was a descendant of one of the first settlers of the Rio Grande Valley, José Nicholaus Cavazos, and the founder of Raymondville, Edward Burleson Raymond. Cathleen was the family historian, and had a great interest in Texas history and genealogical research. Involved with the Texas State Genealogical Society, she served for a time served as Editor of their quarterly newsletter.
Cathleen is predeceased by her parents and younger sister, Shawn O. Martin. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John D. Shoemaker of Houston; daughter, Isabel; son, David (Tiffany); and their children, Michael, Olivia, and Joseph of Austin; sisters, Leonora Martin of San Antonio and Regina Smith (Kenneth) of Victoria; and their children, Sarah and Charles.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that evening at 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10 AM on Friday, August 23, 2024, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church on 1302 Lantana Street. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Cathleen will be greatly missed.
