Charlie was born on July 3, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Charles and Marion Maresh.
He was raised both in Corpus Christi and in the close-knit Czech community of Moravia, Texas, a place he held dear throughout his life. He graduated from Corpus Christi College Academy and went on to marry his “best catch,” Cathy. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Charlie was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for more than 50 years. His faith guided his life and remained a constant source of strength and comfort to him and his family.
Charlie was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved duck hunting, along with dove, turkey, and deer hunting. He enjoyed fishing and being on the water whenever possible and delighted in telling stories of adventures and mischievous antics that kept everyone laughing. He also had a green thumb; his gardens produced such abundant harvests that he regularly shared fruits and vegetables with family and friends, simply for the joy of giving. Known for his sharp wit and quick humor, Charlie never missed an opportunity to make others smile.
He was a proud shareholder of Moravian Hall, a cherished and longstanding Corpus Christi venue central to the local Czech community. Charlie bartended hundreds of events over the years, continuing a family tradition.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Cathy; his children, Charles A. Maresh, Jr. (wife Marie) of Sandia, Texas; Trey Maresh; Tim Maresh; and Amy Komurek (husband Russell), all of Corpus Christi. He was a devoted grandfather, lovingly known as “Pipaw,” to Charlie Maresh III, Sarah Gross, Tyler Maresh, Eisley Komurek, Hannah Komurek, Alixondra Hull Kerr, and Madison Kerr, and a proud great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren, including Charlie Maresh IV, whom he was deeply proud to welcome as a continuation of the family name he cherished. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Krnavek of La Grange, Texas; sister-in-law Gladys Maresh of Corpus Christi, Texas; many beloved extended in-laws, nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marion Maresh; his brother, James Maresh; and his brother-in-law, Joseph “Joe” Krnavek, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Joseph “Joe” Krnavek, Jr., Peter Krnavek, Charlie Krnavek, Troy Webb, Paul Nixon, and Russell Komurek.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Charlie’s memory to a wildlife or conservation organization—such as the Coastal Conservation Association Texas (CCA), Texas Sealife Center, Texas Conservation Alliance, or Texas Wildlife Association Foundation—in honor of his lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
Charlie will be remembered as an outdoorsman of deep faith and old-school work ethic, a man of integrity and quiet strength for whom the mold was truly broken. He was tough, hardworking, and no-nonsense, yet beneath that exterior was a kind and generous heart, a sharp sense of humor, and a natural gift for storytelling. He lived simply, worked hard, and cared deeply for his family—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought out his softer side and were the joy of his later years. He is already dearly missed.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
