

Daniel Richard Chesney was born and raised in Chicago and served our country for 6 years in the U..S Naval Reserve as a packing inspector. Dan married the girl from the soda shop, Mary Loretta Shannon. Together, they had their first child, then moved to Corpus Christi, Texas to start a new life. Dan and Mary had eleven children, 6 girls and 5 boys.
Music was a big part of his life. He loved performing with the Barbershop Quartet. Dan was invited to sing harmony with Tony Bennett as well as Bobby Vinton in Branson, Missouri. His favorite music was from the Big Band Era.
Dan was very active in the Catholic Church becoming a 4th Degree Knight within the Knights of Columbus. As a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Dan attended and participated as a leader for the ACTS Retreat.
Dan was a dedicated and very hard worker whether he was a butcher, sales clerk, security guard, Jewel Tea or Standard Coffee Service route salesman. At times, Dan would hold more than one job in order to make ends meet until he retired in 1993.
Dan loved sports. He not only golfed and bowled, but he was also an avid football and baseball fan. He was a proud CC Hooks Silver Slugger member in addition to attending multiple Houston Astros games and always cheering for the Chicago Cubs with nickel side bets.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2007; his son Stephen in 1961; and granddaughter Jennifer Mullin Wright in 2010.
He married Shirley Ann McVey in May 2011 expanding his family of 11 to 13 beloved children.
Dan is survived by his wife Shirley, and children: Tom (Barbara), Cathy (Lee), Barbara (Don-deceased 2015), Diane (Keith), Michael, Richard (Mary), Gerry, Carol (Leonel), Linda, Joanne (Gary), Robert (Liz), Cheri (John), 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 15th at Cage Mills Funeral Home, 4901 Everhart, with visitation from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 16th at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron Road with interment to follow Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road.
