

Don graduated from Flour Bluff High School in 1956. He played football, basketball, volleyball, and track. He was voted Most Popular and Class Favorite and was a member of the Letterman’s Club and FFA. After high school, Don had a passion for boxing and horses. Don became a very well known Golden Glove boxer in the 50’s and 60’s. He collected multiple wins and memories that he cherished throughout his life. Once he hung his gloves up, he became an amazing carpenter and spent his life building things. He was employed with Durden and Fulton, Bobby Braselton Construction, and Anchor Construction. In his later years, Don was employed by the Navy Base doing carpentry. Even after retirement in 2008, Don was always tinkering and building something for someone.
Don’s love for horses led him to the South Texas Trail Riders were he was a Scout, President, and a beloved member for many many years. Whether it was playing guitar and the campsite or riding in the wagon with his partner in crime, Pat Doty, Don was a face that everyone recognized. His late wife Susan Ott and he looked forward to every ride that came up. Don’s favorite things in life were all of his animals, old western movies, being with his family, and of course the Dallas Cowboys.
Don was proceeded in death by his parents, Lawerence and Lucile Ott; his wife Susan Ott; his sons Bill Ott and Larry Hanna; and his granddaughter Tanya Swails. He is survived by his sisters Beverly Dersy and Della Vaclavik; his children Larry Ott, Linda (Gerald) Mekeal, Clinta Grant, Kenneth (Liz) Hanna, Curtis Hanna, and Debbie (Gerald) Thomas; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Donald will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, followed by an inurnment at 1:00 PM.
