Doris was a native of Corpus Christi. She was born to Edward (Sleepy) and Cordie Mallett on May 31, 1938.
She is preceded in death by her faithful husband of 30 years, James Edward Deal and her loving parents Edward and Cordie Mallett.
She is survived by her loving daughters Sonya E. Hunger of Corpus Christi, Lana K. Wright (Kevin); and the love of her life her granddaughter, Madeline N. Wright of Blacklick, Ohio. She is also survived by lots of cousins and friends who were very special to her which she love dearly.
She was a very loving mother and wife who gave unselfishly to her family and friends. She gave generous to all that knew her and will be remembered in everyone’s heart. If her family and friends ever need her she was always there to give a helping hand.
During the years of the 70’s Doris was very active with her family. She was a Camp Fire leader for her daughter Sonya, served as Head Room Mother for both daughters. The family also loved to go camping in the Hill Country.
She had lots of hobbies during these years- she did Cake Decorating, flower arranging, oil painting, went swimming a lot and taught her daughters how to swim.
Doris and her late husband James were very active in the postal Employee functions. They attended all the parties possible, they both enjoyed dancing. They were both excellent dancers. Anytime there was a cause to celebrate such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Birthdays… etc., they would invite family, friends, and neighbors to join them; there was never a limit to who could come. There motto was the more to come the better party was.
She attended Tuloso-Midway High School graduated in 1956; she loved her school and all her friends. She was in the band for six years where she was Majorette and she was on the basketball team. Doris still keeps in contact with lots of her ex-classmates, loves going to all the class reunions, she always said they were all like family, since it was a very small school at that time. After graduation she attended Durham Business College and Del Mar College.
Her last employer was Riverside Hospital where she worked for fifteen years, before retiring because of health problems in 1994.
