Gabriel Fernandez Sr.

Gabriel M. Fernandez Sr., 82 was called to Heaven by our Lord on Friday, January 25, 2013 while surrounded by his family. He was born March 15, 1930 in Brownsville, Texas to Jose and Guadalupe Fernandez. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Jose Fernandez and Conrado Fernandez, sisters; Concepcion Rodriguez, Maria Fernandez, Amelia Jasso and Maria Santos Rivera, infant daughter; Maria Isabel, and grandson; John Gabriel “Bo” Fernandez.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years; Enedina Fernandez, sons; Gabriel Fernandez Jr., Mariano Fernandez and Baleriano (Cyndi) Fernandez, daughters; Delia Soliz, Liz (Ben) Fernandez, Grace (Richard) Espino, Estella Fernandez, Patsy (Jay) Breckenridge and Sandy (Ramon) Fernandez, 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He lived in Corpus Christi most of his life. He was a humble man of very few words yet he could elicit a smile from anyone he came across. He will most be remembered as a loving husband and father who cared for his wife, and raised his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army, was a Korean War veteran. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Family will be receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Funeraria del Angel with a rosary to be recited that same evening. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 30 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
